Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) carries a serious risk for short-term mortality and long-term disability. Previous trials have not shown a definite benefit for patients with ICH treated with a conventional craniotomy. Whether minimally invasive surgery (MIS) improves outcomes following ICH is unknown. Researchers have now conducted a manufacturer-sponsored randomized trial comparing MIS plus medical management versus medical management alone in patients with an ICH volume of 30 to 80 mL (without extensive intraventricular hemorrhage) treatable within 24 hours of last-known-well time.
