Epilepsy is a common complication after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), which is associated with a much higher rate of delayed seizures than other stroke types. Seizures following SAH are associated with increased mortality and worse functional outcomes, although it is unclear whether this relationship is causal. In this study, the authors sought to identify common risk factors for epilepsy after aSAH and to develop a predictive model. The primary analysis was based on a prospectively collected cohort of 419 patients admitted to a single tertiary care center. The score was then validated on 308 consecutive aSAH patients admitted to a different hospital.
After a median follow-up of 4.2 years, 50 patients (11.9%) developed epilepsy.…
