Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is defined as >12 weeks of nasal symptoms plus evidence of inflammatory sinus abnormalities on imaging or nasal endoscopy. CRS also is classified by the presence or absence of nasal polyps. Nasal steroids are a mainstay for CRS with nasal polyps but have limited efficacy for CRS without polyps. In two similar studies of patients with CRS, researchers examined an exhalation delivery system with fluticasone (EDS-FLU). This device works by blowing into a mouthpiece as the spray is actuated, which allows for deposition above the middle meatus to the ostiomeatal complex and sinus openings.
