Frailty is a recognized risk factor for mortality and morbidity after surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). To better refine this risk and improve prognostic modeling for patients with severe aortic stenosis referred for TAVR, investigators examined the association of osteosarcopenia — the concomitant presence of low bone density and low muscle mass — with post-TAVR mortality. Osteosarcopenia was assessed on the pre-TAVR computed tomography scan by measuring vertebral bone density and psoas muscle mass.
