Administrative harm (AH) denotes adverse healthcare outcomes resulting from administrative decisions that influence patient care, professional practice, or organizational efficiency. Researchers in the first known study of AH conducted a survey and organized focus groups involving 41 hospitalist physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrators from 32 U.S. healthcare organizations. Nearly half of participants held leadership positions.
Although most participants were not intimately familiar with the term AH, researchers identified several themes:
