Cerebral aspergillosis (CA) usually occurs in immunocompromised patients and has a poor prognosis. Although voriconazole is the drug of choice for managing CA, isavuconazole has fewer toxicities and drug-drug interactions that might make it preferable. To examine if isavuconazole has similar efficacy to voriconazole, investigators conducted a European multicenter retrospective audit of adults and children who had received isavuconazole for CA; they then compared the outcomes to those in a control group of 119 patients with CA in the Cerebral Aspergillus Lesional Study (CEREALS), a French national cohort obtained between 2006 and 2018.
