Hypertension is highly prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, and many patients are inadequately treated. To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a low-dose triple-pill antihypertensive medication in this setting, investigators randomized 300 Black African adults in Nigeria (average age, 52 years; 54% women) with uncontrolled hypertension (≥140/90 mm Hg) — either untreated or treated with a single blood pressure–lowering medication — to receive a low-dose triple-pill antihypertensive therapy or standard of care.
