In several small, phase 2 clinical trials of patients with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), glucagon-like pepide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists were associated with histologic resolution of steatohepatitis (NEJM JW Gastroenterol Feb 2016 and Lancet 2016; 387:679; N Engl J Med 2021; 384:1113). Little is known, however, about clinical outcomes associated with GLP-1 agonist use in patients with MASLD.
