The recently published Myocardial Ischemia and Transfusion (MINT) trial demonstrated a trend toward lower 30-day recurrent myocardial infarction (MI) or death — including significantly lower cardiac-related death — when transfusion threshold was set at 10 g/dL rather than 7 or 8 g/dL (NEJM JW Gen Med Dec 15 2023 and N Engl J Med 2023; 389:2446); this benefit was seen primarily in patients with type 1 MI. The MINT investigators now have performed a prespecified secondary analysis to assess outcomes differences among four different transfusion threshold strategies.
