The initial clinical trials that demonstrated the benefits of endovascular thrombectomy for large-vessel occlusion stroke mainly focused on the anterior circulation, particularly the middle cerebral artery. But evidence supporting endovascular thrombectomy for basilar artery occlusion has been accumulating, primarily with 90-day endpoints.
