SURMOUNT-1 was the industry-sponsored trial that led to U.S. FDA approval of tirzepatide — branded as Zepbound — for managing obesity (NEJM JW Gen Med Aug 1 2023 and N Engl J Med 2022; 387:205). Although the trial excluded patients with diabetes, 40% of participants had prediabetes. Now, the researchers report outcomes for the prediabetes subgroup, focusing on changes in glycemic status.
