In the randomized TRAVERSE trial, about 5200 middle-aged or older men (mean age, 63) with previous cardiovascular (CV) disease or multiple CV risk factors, blood testosterone levels between 100 and 300 ng/dL, and symptoms that could reflect hypogonadism received testosterone therapy or placebo. The primary results, published in mid-2023, showed no excess risk for adverse CV events after ≈2 years (NEJM JW Gen Med Jul 15 2023 and N Engl J Med 2023; 389:107). The researchers took advantage of this huge study population to explore other aspects of testosterone supplementation and published results of several substudies during 2024.
