In the past year, the American Heart Association (AHA) released a new cardiovascular risk calculator with the acronym PREVENT. It differs in several ways from the previous calculator, issued by the AHA and American College of Cardiology (ACC) in 2013.
First, PREVENT was derived from much larger and more contemporary patient databases than its predecessor. Second, it incorporates new input variables, two of which are mandatory (body-mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate) and three of which are optional (glycosylated hemoglobin, urinary albumin–creatinine ratio, and zip code).
