Current U.S. guidelines recommend postpartum antihypertensive therapy once blood pressure (BP) exceeds 150/100 mm Hg. In this observational study, researchers evaluated whether stricter BP control (goal, <130/80 mm Hg) reduced postpartum ED visits compared with standard care among women with a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (chronic or gestational hypertension or preeclampsia).
The intervention group was a prospective cohort of 276 participants who were started on hypertension medication to maintain a BP <130/80 prior to discharge and were remotely monitored for 6 weeks after discharge.
