Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is associated with type 2, or eosinophilic, inflammation and is seen commonly in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma. Currently, several monoclonal antibodies with varying mechanisms of action (i.e., dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab) are approved by the U.S. FDA for CRSwNP, and several more are being studied — as illustrated by three new industry-sponsored randomized trials.
In one multicenter trial, 203 patients with severe CRSwNP received monthly subcutaneous injections of tezepelumab (Tezspire, an anti-TSLP monoclonal antibody, which is already FDA approved for asthma) or placebo.
