Two recent manufacturer-funded, randomized, placebo-controlled trials evaluated the non–FDA-approved cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor obicetrapib for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
The first trial tested oral obicetrapib 10 mg once daily in 2500 patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or a history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) who had LDL-C levels ≥100 mg/dL or non–high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels ≥130 mg/dL despite maximum tolerated lipid-lowering therapy.
