Although the CDC requests that all immigrants be tested for tuberculosis (TB) during admission processing, the longstanding recommendation has been to delay tuberculin skin testing (TST) and performance of the interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) for 4 weeks after live-virus vaccination due to concerns about false-negative results. Is the TB test result truly affected by receipt of a live-virus vaccine during the preceding 4 weeks? Regan and colleagues assessed the likelihood of a positive TST or IGRA within the period before vaccination, 1 to 28 days after vaccination (critical period), or >28 days after vaccination among more than 158,000 children admitted to the U.S. between 2014 and 2022.
