Acute myocarditis (AM) diagnoses have become more common with increased use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), but few biomarkers are known to help with risk stratification. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is readily available and is associated with adverse outcomes in different cardiovascular conditions. In an observational study, researchers investigated the potential utility of the NLR in 1150 adult patients (median age, 38; 72% men) diagnosed with AM by CMR (82%) or endomyocardial biopsy (18%) and admitted to 10 hospitals in Europe. The NLR was calculated from the patients' first full blood count after admission.
