IDSA last issued urinary tract infection (UTI) guidelines in 2010 with its recommendations for treatment of uncomplicated cystitis and pyelonephritis in women. Now, IDSA has revised its UTI classification: Uncomplicated UTIs are those confined to the bladder in afebrile persons; complicated UTIs are infections beyond the bladder, including pyelonephritis, febrile or bacteremic UTIs, and catheter-associated UTIs. IDSA has also provided recommendations for management of complicated UTIs.
