In a survey of adults seeking care in the ED, most were not up to date with recommended immunizations, and almost half said they would accept a vaccine at the visit.
Many U.S. adults do not receive primary care or the recommended vaccines; to find out why not, investigators surveyed those seeking care in 10 urban emergency departments (EDs) from mid-April through December 2024 to determine their knowledge about vaccine recommendations and willingness to receive them.
Among 3285 respondents, 50% were unaware of at least one CDC-recommended vaccine and 86% had not received such a vaccine. Among the 2821 undervaccinated individuals, 46% said they would accept at least one recommended vaccine (and of these people, 87% would accept all the recommended vaccines).
