Current guidelines for severe degenerative asymptomatic mitral regurgitation (MR) with preserved left ventricular function recommend watchful waiting (European Society of Cardiology) or early surgery if the likelihood of successful repair is >95% (American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology [AHA/ACC]).
