New Guidance on Treating Acute Allergic Reactions

Most patients and clinicians recognize self-administered epinephrine as the gold standard, first-line treatment for anaphylaxis; however, uncertainty remains about which symptoms warrant its use and when medical attention is necessary (see Figure 1). To address this gap, an international panel developed scenario-based recommendations for managing acute allergic reactions at home or in other community settings.
