For some patients with essential tremor, medications yield unsatisfactory results, and neurostimulation (e.g., deep brain stimulation) is considered. In July 2025, the U.S. FDA approved a new wearable device, marketed as Felix NeuroAI Wristband, that uses transcutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (TPNS).
In the study that led to approval, researchers randomized 125 patients (mean age, 65; average tremor duration, 11 years) to either TPNS or sham device. The primary outcome was a composite measure of self-reported difficulty with 10 activities of daily living (e.g., drinking from a glass, dressing, writing) and 2 investigator-assessed drawing tasks (spirals, handwriting); the maximum score was 52.
