One option for reducing this risk, at least for upper GI events, is concomitant therapy with a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI). Another alternative is acetaminophen, but this drug is a weak inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, and limited data suggest that it may also increase the risk for GI events.
