Are surgical services for women valued less than those for men? Investigators compared reimbursement for 219 invasive obstetric and gynecologic services (women only), 125 urologic procedures (men only), and 105 general surgical (gender-neutral) procedures.
They matched 10 gynecologic procedures with 10 urologic procedures judged the same or equivalent (e.g., incision and drainage of a penile lesion was matched with I&D of a lesion on the vulva; radical hysterectomy was matched with radical prostatectomy).
