Podophyllin is a recommended treatment for genital warts; however, it has a significant failure rate and can cause local adverse reactions. In a letter to the Lancet, Lassus reports the effectiveness of pure podophyllotoxin solution in men with untreated penile warts.
Forty-eight patients applied podophyllotoxin solution at home twice a day for three days, and 52 patients had podophyllin-ethanolic solution applied in the physician's office once a week. If either therapy failed after one week, it was repeated up to four times. Disappearance of warts was considered a cure.
