Both PUVA and narrowband UVB (NB-UVB) phototherapy are effective treatments for psoriasis. Several studies comparing the relative efficacy of the two forms of light treatment have produced conflicting results. These authors present the results of the first randomized, double-blind comparison of PUVA and NB-UVB therapy for plaque-type psoriasis.
Eighty-eight patients received either PUVA or NB-UVB twice weekly until their psoriasis cleared or a maximum of 30 sessions was reached. They were followed for up to 1 year.
