Gastroparesis presents a difficult clinical problem, especially given that many of the promotility drugs have been removed from the market in the U.S. because of potential adverse effects. Prior studies have shown that injection of botulinum toxin into the pylorus improves symptoms in some, but not all, patients.
To delineate clinical characteristics associated with response to pyloric injection of botulinum toxin, investigators retrospectively reviewed the cases of 179 patients who received this treatment for gastroparesis — reportedly, the largest cohort of such patients described in the literature.
