Pregnant women are frequently uncomfortable during the third trimester because of symptoms caused by the growing uterus. Many complain of gastroesophageal reflux that is unrelieved by antacids or avoidance of irritating foods. This blinded crossover study randomized 20 women with GE reflux in the third trimester of pregnancy to receive 150 mg of ranitidine (Zantac) twice daily, 150 mg of ranitidine once daily plus placebo once daily, or placebo twice daily.
