Genetic epilepsies are often challenging to manage due to seizure burden, developmental impacts, and neurologic emergencies including status epilepticus (SE). To better understand how genetic causes of epilepsy may influence SE presentation in children, researchers retrospectively analyzed demographic and clinical data on 790 children from an Italian pediatric SE network.
Overall, 34% of the children had no genetic etiology, 38% had a presumed genetic etiology, and 28% had a confirmed gene or chromosomal abnormality.
