Bence Jones proteinuria (i.e., free monoclonal light immunoglobulin chains in the urine) has traditionally been associated with plasma-cell neoplasms. More sensitive detection methods, however, have shown that this phenomenon occurs in other conditions, particularly those with neoplastic B lymphocytes. This study of 66 unselected patients found to have Bence Jones proteinuria during screening for immunoglobulin abnormalities gives a clearer idea of how often this condition occurs.
