Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), a nonatherosclerotic cause of myocardial infarction (MI), occurs mostly in women. Most SCADs are not related to pregnancy, but the majority of MIs in pregnant women are due to SCAD. To learn more about pregnancy-associated SCAD (P-SCAD), investigators compared SCAD registry data on roughly 100 women with P-SCAD and 800 women with non–pregnancy-associated SCAD (NP-SCAD). The median age in the P-SCAD group was 37 years (the median age at pregnancy in the United States is 29 years).
