Guidelines recommend initiating therapeutic hypothermia as soon as possible after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients with witnessed cardiac arrest, especially when the initial rhythm is ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF). Various instruments, such as surface-cooling suits, endovascular catheters, and cooling caps, have been used for this purpose.
