Evidence suggests that eating within a specific time window and fasting for the rest of the day (i.e., time-restricted eating) can result in weight loss and improve metabolic parameters (e.g., insulin sensitivity). This randomized clinical trial compared the effects of early time-restricted eating (ETRE) within the 8-hour window of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. versus eating during a ≥12-hour window (the control schedule) in adults with obesity. Ninety people (mean age, 43; 80% women; mean body-mass index, 39.6) received counseling to follow an energy-restricted diet with either ETRE or the control schedule.
