An overview of Colorectal Cancer Screening: An Update to the American Cancer Society Guideline, 2026
Since the last American Cancer Society (ACS) guideline on colorectal cancer screening published in 2018, data have emerged on new stool- and blood-based screening tests. As part of an updated guideline, the ACS also commissioned a systematic review on these new tests. Here, we consolidate their recommendations and findings from the systematic review.
Colorectal cancer screening should start at age 45; however, a separate recommendation notes that the evidence for benefit outweighing harm is stronger starting at age 50.
