Many patients with migraine have vestibular symptoms, including positional or nonpositional vertigo and head-motion induced dizziness or vertigo. Some of these patients satisfy formal criteria for “vestibular migraine” — at least five episodes of vestibular symptoms lasting ≥5 minutes, with at least half the episodes accompanied by classic migraine features. This report from a headache clinic provides an overview of vestibular symptoms in 2800 patients with recently diagnosed migraine.
68% of patients had vestibular symptoms, and a quarter of those patients met criteria for vestibular migraine.
Nonpositional vertigo, positional vertigo, and head motion-induced vertigo or dizziness were all reported commonly.
