Uncontrolled studies in the 1940s suggested that vitamin B6 is beneficial for treating the common symptoms of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of vitamin B6 in 74 pregnant women with nausea or vomiting who were attending a university obstetric outpatient clinic.
Fifty-nine women completed the protocol: 31 received 25- mg tablets of vitamin B6 every eight hours, and 28 received placebo. After three days, there was a significant decrease in the number of women reporting any vomiting in the vitamin B6 group, compared with the placebo group.
