Yohimbine, an alpha-2 adrenoreceptor blocker, has been used for years to treat erectile dysfunction, but there is controversy about its effectiveness. This meta-analysis from the U.K. examined seven randomized double-blind trials comparing yohimbine and placebo for erectile dysfunction. The trials included men with both organic and psychogenic impotence; doses generally ranged from 5 to 10 mg, three times daily.
Response rates (sometimes measured by self-report and sometimes by measurements of penile rigidity) ranged from 34% to 73% with yohimbine, and from 4% to 45% with placebo.
