In 2011, we saw the approval of the nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) rilpivirine both alone and, more important, in a one-pill, once-daily regimen with tenofovir/FTC (JW AIDS Clin Care May 27 2011 and Aug 15 2011). The approval of the coformulated regimen (Complera) prompted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to issue an interim guideline update (JW AIDS Clin Care Sep 12 2011), listing tenofovir/FTC/rilpivirine as an alternative (rather than a preferred) regimen.
