For patients with HIV infection and cryptococcal meningitis (CM), a randomized, controlled trial (RCT) in Africa demonstrated that a single 10 mg/kg infusion of liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB) followed by 14 days of oral flucytosine and fluconazole was noninferior and had fewer adverse events than the standard intravenous treatment of 7 days of LAmB with flucytosine plus 7 days of fluconazole (AMBITION trial). Yet uptake has been slow in the United States.
