Hysterectomy and the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) are two of the more effective treatments for menorrhagia (Journal Watch Women’s Health Jun 9 2004). However, the effect of hysterectomy on sexuality has been questioned. Researchers in Finland used questionnaires to evaluate sexual outcomes in 236 women (age range, 35–49) with menorrhagia who were randomly assigned to receive LNG-IUS (n=119) or hysterectomy (n=117).
