Results from a national longitudinal survey of more than 1700 teens (age range, 12–17) showed that exposure to sexual content on television is associated with initiation of intercourse (JW Womens Health Nov 23 2004). To determine if exposure to sexual content also is associated with teen pregnancy, researchers asked the same cohort about pregnancy occurrence 3 years later.
The 718 teens (43% female) who reported having sexual intercourse and who provided complete information on pregnancy were included in the analysis, which was controlled for correlates associated with teen pregnancy (i.e., school grades and behavioral problems).
