Dramatic changes in drug susceptibilities have been seen with Neisseria gonorrhoeae worldwide (JW Infect Dis Jan 9 2013). Thus, selection of empirical therapy can be difficult, and recommendations can change, depending on surveillance data in a region.
Investigators recently analyzed data for 2007 through 2011 from the Gonococcal Resistance to Antimicrobials Surveillance Programme (GRASP) in England and Wales to provide a more-contemporary profile, which should be helpful in formulating guideline recommendations.
