In early 2010, the DAD study group reported that cumulative exposure to protease inhibitors (PIs) was significantly associated with an increased risk for myocardial infarction (JW AIDS Clin Care Feb 1 2010). Now, given reports linking PIs to cardiac-conduction abnormalities (i.e., prolonged QTc and PR intervals), DAD investigators have evaluated the association between PI use and the risk for sudden cardiac death or nonhemorrhagic stroke (a composite endpoint).
