The causes of gastric cancer are multifactorial, and associations with diabetes mellitus and Helicobacter pylori infection have been postulated but not confirmed (J Natl Cancer Inst 1997; 89:1360 and JW Gastroenterol Jun 22 2007). Now, investigators have performed a population-based, prospective cohort study to examine the effects of hyperglycemia and H. pylori infection on the incidence of gastric cancer.
