Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma (GML). Eradication of H. pylori is a standard first-line therapy for patients with early-stage GML (JW Gastroenterol Apr 23 2010).
A prospective study in Germany assessed remission success and long-term outcomes in 120 patients with early-stage GML who were treated solely with H. pylori eradication. Patient follow-up consisted of monthly endoscopy with biopsies and was reduced to endoscopy every 6 to 12 months when patients achieved complete response (absence of macroscopic or microscopic evidence of lymphoma during two consecutive endoscopy exams).
