Once again, I am delighted to introduce the special year-end essays for Journal Watch Psychiatry. The editorial board has selected the topics after carefully reviewing all of the past year's summaries. In making our choices, we have tried to balance relevance to the clinician, recognition of landmark studies, media coverage, and public awareness. Each of the essays both draws on several related Journal Watch Psychiatry summaries and includes new citations.
The stories are arranged in no particular order, and their sequence is not intended to reflect relative importance. All citations are from 2011, unless otherwise noted.
The year-in-review essays for 2011 are:
Alternative Treatments for Our Patients: 2011 Research
Off-Label Use of Atypical Antipsychotics: The Good, the Bad, and the Costly
Burgeoning Research into Autism Continues in 2011
Psychiatry at the Interface with General Medicine
