The U.K. Committee on Safety of Medicines issued a warning about an increased risk for relapse in children with steroid-responsive nephrotic syndrome during the 6 months after immunization with meningococcal C conjugate vaccine (MCCV). The warning followed publication of a U.K. study in which the risk for nephrotic syndrome relapse was nearly doubled after MCCV (Journal Watch Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Sep 8 2003). To independently examine this risk, investigators conducted a population-based study of 162 cases of nephrotic syndrome relapse in 53 children (age range, 1–16 years) with steroid-responsive nephrotic syndrome.
