The risk for developing breast cancer is affected by lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity (Journal Watch Women’s Health Jan 11 2007 and Feb 1 2007); however, less is known about their effect on outcome in breast cancer survivors.
In the Women’s Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) study, investigators randomized women who had been treated for early breast cancer to a dietary intervention group (1537 women) receiving intensive nutritional counseling (monthly telephone calls, newsletters, and cooking classes) or a comparison group (1551 women) receiving printed information about dietary recommendations.
